The Woman

 clothed with the Sun

Revelation 12:1, and there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:

2 And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.

3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.

4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.

5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.

And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:  And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.  Rev. 12:1, 2.

Here we see a beautiful description of the New Testament Church, symbolized as Woman, the Bride of Jesus Christ, abiding in the spiritual realm, her heavenly place on earth. She is seen in all the glory that her husband Christ has bestowed on her.  She was so beautiful, that she is style as a Great Wonder. As we shall see the biblical description of her suits her well.

Truly the church of the New Testament of the morning time was the light of the world, and her chief characteristics were Holiness, and Unity, and because of this, the New Testament Church possessed great power.  Acts 4:31-33, 5: 12-16.  Multitudes were saved and healed, Acts 2:41, 47; 5:14.  She was clothed with the Gospel Light and truly in every aspect she was a great wonder in heaven.

Now let us define some of the symbols listed here in the 12th chapter of Revelation so that we can proceed with this wonderful study of the Church in prophecy and history.

Great means, more than ordinary, above average, eminent.

Wonder = a sign, or miracle Isa. 8:8

Heaven = Ecclesiastical heaven Eph 2:6

            (3) Heavens

·        Aerial Heaven Gen 1:1

·        Terrestrial Heaven

·        Ecclesiastical heaven

Woman = The New Testament Church Songs 6:9, 10; 2 Cor. 11:2; Gal 4:26; Rom 7:4; Eph. 5:25, 31, 32.

Sun = The Light of the Gospel, Matt. 4:2, 16,17; 5:14; Acts 26:13-18.

Moon = The Law, Heb 10:1; Songs 6:9, 10; Isa. 66:6-

Twelve Stars = Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ, Rev. 1:20

THE MAN-CHILD

Now we will turn our attention to the “Man-Child” of the Woman.  The man-child was the off spring or the remnant of the Woman, the church.  Isa. 66:6 “A Whole Nation”, 1 Peter 2:9.

The Rod of Iron = The Power of God with the Spirit. Isa 11:1-5, Psa 110:1-3;Heb. 13:7; Psalm 23.  Ruling all nations with rod of iron, meant putting judgment on the nations (religion) for their worship of idolatry.

Being “caught up” to God and His Throne, meant being carried away in the spirit.  Rev 4:1,2;  (These saints were given over to God and consecrated to do His will).  They were caught up in the things of God.  2 Cor. 12:1-4;  They were not caught up in the things of the world and things of this earth, and the flesh, but unto God.
