The shewbread was type of the spiritual
food which the believer feast on. John 6:35,50; Matt. 4:4; Isa. 55:2
The Table of shewbread was a simple
table upon which was placed the fruit and grain offerings...( bread and wine
). It was made again of acacia wood covered with gold. God's purity and
holiness. It had a rim to keep the bread from falling off and being
desecrated. Certain of these artifacts had utensils that went with them. The
Alter, shovels and other tools, the Table, vessels and such, the Alter of
Incense, utensils as well. All solid gold and speaking of the gifts from the
Lord that allow us to do the work of the ministry.
The Table held the provision for the
Priests, the Levites. They were chosen among the tribes, not by vote, but by
God to do the work of the ministry. And even though the people gave their
offerings "as unto the Lord" The Lord turned around (not needing
human sustenance Himself) gave it as a provision to the priesthood. In this
the Levites knew that their provision was not from man, but from the Lord.
They recieved the BEST of Israel. (ONLY the best was offered to the Lord, and
the Lord, in turn, only gives the best as well. And so for those priests, the
bread was the bread of life, and the wine, the drink which sustained.
This is the same shewbread that King
David and his men had once when they were starving. It would be thought
blasphemy for them to do, But the Messiah Yeshua explained ;
" when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto
him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the Sabbath day. But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an
hungered, and they that were with him; How he entered into the house of God,
and did eat the showbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for
them which were with him, but only for the priests? Or have ye not read in the
law, how that on the Sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are blameless? But I say unto you, That in this place is one
greater than the temple. But if ye had known what this meanest, I will have
mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless. For the
Son of man is Lord even of the Sabbath day."
Today we celebrate together
this mystery with the Jewish people who gave us the Messiah. They celebrate it
as Passover, the Haggida and Believers of Yeshua, Jesus, in communion.
"Jesus said I am the Bread of Life" and we eat that unleavened bread
to remember His broken body which bought for us the Passover of eternal death.
And we drink the wine of the New Covenant in His blood, painted not on our
doorposts, but applied to ourselves and this has redeemed us from our sins.
Then we look ahead, we see a large curtain, the veil, behind which is
the Most Holy Place, but first, in front of the curtain, there is a smaller
alter, like the one outside, but from it rises smoke, night and day.
